Christmas gets everyone excited! We are very happy to meet family, friends and loved ones. People travel from miles away just to spend Christmas with family and friends. Isn’t it a lovely feeling? Of course we all enjoy that feeling and happiness. In a really small street in the slums of Chennai there is a place called Otteri. If you are from Chennai, chances are you have heard of it. In one of the small streets, there is an orphanage that shelters and takes care of kids, street children for lack of a better word, kids abandoned by their parents and orphans.

We fell in love with these kids last year when we met them and decided to go back this year just for these kids. These are some of the happiest kids we have know. These kids beam with joy when they meet us and get to spend time with us. This just goes on to reminds us of how grateful we should be for our parents and family and for the many other wonders and blessings that God has given us.

So we at Share&Care collected small donations from some very generous people and bought some essentials things for the orphanage ,we bought 40 blankets and 40 floor mats for the kids as they were in urgent need of this, as sleeping on the floor during a cold December was really tough. We also got them some cakes,snacks and chocolates. We would have liked to do more but we had a really small budget and decided to go ahead with this project only late this year due to a lack of volunteers. However, we did our best to put a smile on the faces of about 55 kids and 10 caregivers.

Similar to last year, we also reached out to about 5 Anglo Indian Families and we put together a small Christmas basket which had 5 kilos of rice,1 litre oil,1 Tang packet for juice,1 kilo or sugar, 200 grams of coffee powder, 1 kilo of chicken and ½ kg of Cake.

We would have liked to have done more this year through Share&Care but we did not due to a lack of volunteers and also because of a heavy workload. We look forward to 2011 as we want to reach out even more and bless many more people who are less fortunate. We ask you to keep us in your prayers and ask God to bless us with a lot more hands so we can touch more hearts and bring more smiles.

P:S-  After our visit to the orphanage in 2009 ,we have had many other families, companies and individuals visit the orphanage and bring smiles to those kids. This brings a sense of accomplishment and happiness to us and helps us to move forward in our endeavors of sharing and caring.
